Income Tax Return

Irrespective of line count or otherwise, I believe you would come under salary basis.  Your total income can cover line counts total amount or gross salary amount.  It does not matter which one.  All overheads come under expenses.

As for form used, please check out ITR-1 SAHAJ, ITR-2, ITR-2A and ITR-4S-SUGAM.  It is a bit confusing.  I asked around and was referred to these forms.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, but I am not sure that is correct. Payment under line count basis is dependent on lines transcribed unlike Salary which is not based on the same. Under line count one cannot show net salary (after deduction of overheads) under the head Salary of the IT Return. One first needs to show total salary (including any allowances) under that head and deductions as provided by the IT Act. In English parlance, line count earning is not salary but professional contractual income  and, I think, one would need to show it under Profession & Business. Thereby, one would need to use ITR-4S-Sugam. Best is to contact a TRP (Tax Return Preparer) who would then prepare and file one's return online. Their fees at stated website is Rs250.00.

Here's what you need to know about the new rules for filing tax returns

What are other MTs doing whose gross taxable income after exemptions, but before deductions is above the exemption limit?
